Well I'll kick things off. July isn't usually a big photography month for me because bird activity tends to slow down. Here are a couple from past years, I'll try to get a few more as this month progresses.

The first is a juvenile or female ruby-throated hummingbird (almost impossible to tell the difference) at royal catchfly, with wild bergamot in the background. Taken in July 2010.

The second is a clear wing hummingbird moth at wild bergamot, with some royal catchfly in the background. Taken in July 2013.

Both these photographs were taken right by my patio, with a 500 lens and extension tube (allows for closer focus.) I can say that the bird was way easier to photograph than the moth - the former being much more predictable in its movements!

Very nice photos Gymell! You must have a lot of patience and a good eye to get those kinds of stop-action shots.

Catbird I see everyday lately. Has been searching through the leaf debris in the front yard after I put the logs in.

Huntsman on cup plant. They can get over the water moats where ants are not able to.

Found out about these sand wasps lately. Being mostly sand here at the bottom of an ancient lake.

Here's one from years past, July 2009, sitting along the shores of Lake Ponchartrain waiting for thousands of purple martins to come in to roost beneath the causeway bridge.
