My camera's been pooping out on me awfully fast too as of late but I believe it's the batteries. I've had the same rechargeables since the day I bought the camera (End of 2008) About time to buy new ones I suppose but I'm going to pass on that as I want to move on to using the NEW camera once lifes business gives me a break. I'll buy a couple packs of extras for myself and HOPE my oldie makes it through one last trip together.

I have a little tip for when the battery dies on you in the field...it won't solve the problem, but it might give you a chance to get another shot or two. Rub the battery (metal contact parts) vigorously back and forth on your jeans to build up static electricity. Then put it back on your camera--I've tried this and once I got several pictures taken afterward, and even turned it off statisfied before it died on me again.

It is worth a try...let me know if you have success with it, too...or did I just have some dumb luck?

Here I am over in England, and my camera refuses to read/format the new card I put in just before departure!

Noooooooooo And it's probably one of those, once in a lifetime trips.
Did you buy the wrong kind of chip by mistake?
Maybe you buy yourself a reasonable dispensable-Temp?

Apparently, the card I bought was too high-tech for my old camera - picked up another memory card in a local shop today, and it appears to be working...

When I read the first line (above) before I even opened the post, I thought of some dumb, smart-ass (or lame-ass) remark: "They have the internet in England!?!?!" (Sorry, that is how my mind works.) ...but then I read about your troubles. Glad to hear that things worked out!

We look forward to some pictures if you care to share. I'd also be interested in what American natives have invaded there.

suunto> "Here I am over in England, and my camera refuses to read/format the new card I put in just before departure!" OMG... my worst nightmare come true!!! Really glad you found a new card that's compatible with your camera since you probably don't get over there more than 1 a year if that!!! That woulda been a real nail biter for me. I have a hard enough time going without my camera when I have to send it in for repairs.... I'd freak out if I was on vacation with a new card my camera couldn't read!!!
