Default Mountain Lion Spotted in NW Wisconsin

A rare sighting of a Mountain Lion in Wisconsin. By Andy Rathbun
arathbun @ pioneerpress.com:
Quote:
They haven't been documented in northwest Wisconsin in a hundred years, but what appears to be a wild mountain lion is on the prowl near Spooner.
The animal, an adult male weighing 120 to 130 pounds, was seen Tuesday by a homeowner about 15 miles northwest of the Washburn County city, about 100 miles northeast of the Twin Cities. ... The last confirmed sighting of a wild mountain lion in Wisconsin was about a year ago in the southeastern part of the state. That cat was eventually shot by police in a Chicago suburb. Before then, no sightings had been confirmed anywhere in Wisconsin since the 1900s, according to the DNR.
Quote:
The wild mountain lions here are believed to have come from the Black Hills of South Dakota, where the nearest breeding population lives.
"It's a dispersing animal, and dispersers are looking for mates," said Adrian Wydeven, a mammal ecologist with the Wisconsin DNR. "Without a mate here, it's probably not going to stay here for a long time. It's going to continue to keep moving until either it dies or finds a mate."

You've got a bum link.

Wish they'd disperse down here to Illinois.

We need to tell Dave Stiles to eat his heart out because the Midwest finally has a mountain lion. Another 10-15 years and who knows, maybe we'll be photographing more than squirrels and bison in pens. This is great news.

He is checking you out! Looking straight at your camera. If that's a March picture, be sure you put one in the photo contest thread.

I did not take the photos, but know the person who did.

Here's a link to the article.

I've been lucky in life to see 5 mountain lions in the wild. One on the Olympic Peninsula, One in NW Montana, Two in Yellowstone and one in the North Tetons. Good luck in documenting their return to an open ecosystem niche.
