Frogs are environmental barometers. I learned that when I moved to the property where I am now--in rural western Alabama. My neighbor told me that frogs had disappeared within the last 20 years because of accumulation of pesticides. Slowly now I am noticing some frogs and recognizing their song when they are happy.
