Default Ant Biomass Revisited

Yet another claim that ants comprise up to 15 percent of the animal biomass on Earth - see Who Knew? - Yahoo! News ("Discover the fascinating world of ants, by far the most numerous creatures on earth. Learn about these tiny creatures that measure up as an impressive species.")

I would again be interested in MrILoveTheAnts viewpoint(s) on this...

I laughed so hard when they showed a "Queen Ant" and it's a picture of a blister beetle!

I suppose that's as good a number as any. It's all just a mathematical estimation, and they do that for every animal. It's not like someone went around and counted and weighed all the ants.

Also I'd say every fact they list in the video would only apply to a few species. Their weight, size, number of ants per colony, number of queen ants per colony, number of eggs a queen ant can lay in a day all vary.

I'm giggling right now picturing someone having to count and weigh all the ants on our planet. Hmmmm? How many ants in a pound?

Are you volunteering MrILoveTheAnts?
