Default Big headed fly.

I like to see these flies, I think they are rather neat.

Beautiful photo! This thick-headed fly (Diptera: Conopidae) appears to be a Physoconops sp. - see Wasp-mimic fly - Physoconops - BugGuide.Net for an example. It looks very similar to the one you posted on bugguide some time ago.

The term big-headed flies usually refers to those in the family Pipunculidae - see Big Headed Fly on Flickr - Photo Sharing! for an example.

BTW, if you are not already aware of it, there is a fairly comprehensive guide to the Diptera of British Columbia at http://www.for.gov.bc.ca/hfd/library...p_y062001b.pdf

Yes, I posted a few on BugGuide (over 600). I also send pics to Rob Cannings as he is the top guy at the museum here, he helps out with the ID. I have a couple of guides, I bought Eric Eatons book.
