Whatever the critter, they built a cozy little cottage. A nice thing to have in the northeast right now.

Thanks, havalotta. I watched her build it this past summer, and I loved her for using the strands of wire grass that I had pulled from the garden. They went from detested weeds to valuable building material.

What's in the nest? Is it a decoration or wooden toy, or just an interesting twig?

Warmed and steamed... I broke down and turned on our humidifiers. Got another lodge and a nest photo.

If you mean the mockingbird nest, as far as I know there is nothing in it. I don't think she even ended up laying eggs in it, as I waited and waited for baby mockingbirds and they never came, and I never found evidence of eggshells either. She was much more shy than I might have expected, given how common they are.

Love the muskrat nests, Equilibrium! I will keep an eye out for some around here.
