Default A question has been added to the registration process

We are attempting to cut down the number of bots and quasi bots registering at Wildlife Gardeners. A question has been added to the registration process. Unfortunately anyone attempting to modify their profile will also have to answer the "Why do you want to be a member of Wildlife Gardeners?" by writing a complete sentence in English about why they want to be a member of our site. We're an English speaking site. This should reduce the number of spammers registering from around the world that have no interest in interacting with our community other than to drop ads on us.

New members will now need to be approved before they are activated.

This note is being posted for existing members since the next time you go to edit your profiles you will be required to answer the question also. We could not eliminate the need for existing members to answer the question in order to incorporate this into the registration process.

We apologize for any inconvenience. Bear with us while we attempt to reduce the number of spam bots registering.

You banned them? I'm sure all of the nice people in Moscow are dying to know about our gardening habits.

It floors me that people can make money by spamming.

You go back to fighting the spammers. I'll go water my garden.

Thanks for looking out for us.

Hey Admin? Just on the slim chance that it isn't a spammer you're dealing with, would you conside removing that e-mail address and other info from above? If an admin posted my info like that, I would be wigged out, and extremely angry.

Adding the question sounds like a good idea, btw. You guys are doing a great job.

The email address associated with the IP address attempting to register will not be removed. We have a means by which a legitimate entity can contact us. They can find this feature at the bottom of the pages.

Admin, I find it distressing that you are leaving an e-mail address posted, even if that person is banned, and even if the address belongs to a spammer. Isn't banning enough of a punishment? Is this how I would expect to be treated if (for some unimaginable reason) I were banned?

It isn't a person. It is a bot.

It doesn't matter: the unanticipated consequence of your action is that you make me nervous about participating here.

The IP address was banned. It is unfortunate you believe there to exist unanticipated consequences as WG has never shared the email address of a banned member and has no intentions of ever doing so.
