I was going through my old pics while looking for one to add to the herp thread. This is like the 10th picture that I took through my new camera. I would be happy if someone could tell me what species it is. I know that it is fairly common. This was very late summer, so he was very docile.

He's handsome. Someone will probably know what he is. I don't. Have some fun while you wait for an id. http://pick4.pick.uga.edu/mp/20q?guide=Butterflies

It's probably a Black Swallowtail; but there are a few other butterflies that are similar. The light seems to be playing with the colors and patterns on it's wings. A nice host plant for black swallowtails is the golden alexander (Zizia aurea).
