No - Unless you're some kind of nut... ;-)

turttle> "I don't know what the black stuff is on him, and was wondering if it indicated he is parasitized, and that might explain his odd behavior. I guess the final answer on that will be seeing what emerges in the spring! The pond netting was black, and it is conceivable that somehow he got fibers from it on him but I am not convinced that was really llikely." I don't think he's parasitized. I've seen that before and it's got a different look. I'm pretty sure yours is just getting ready to molt. The hawk moth cat I found in the grass that I warmed up then put out on a pepper plant under a box to protect it from raccoons and freezing started getting back flecks like yours and yesterday morning when I went to go lift the box and the tarp off the plants.... I could see poops all around the pepper plant he was on and a trail of poops running about 1 foot away from the plant and a little depression in the soil where he must have burrowed down.

Well, seeing I'm in England (visiting wife's family), it's mid-morning to me!

Ah ha!!! You're on holiday as they say!!! Good for you for getting away and even better for your wifie who gets to touch base with her family!!! Ya.... you would be a little screwed up because they're about 6 hours ahead of us. I finished off the mound in my driveway after work yesterday and fell asleep half way through thinking about things I had to get done.... moving this compost mix is really taking a toll on me and I've got another load coming Friday!!! I'm sitting here eating dinner right now believe it or not. Which reminds me.... I need to pick your brain a little on veggies and "stuff" over winter.... after you're back from your trip.
