Default Orioles like grape jelly

The orioles like grape jelly. They tell me cedar waxwings like grape jelly too but I've never seen them swoop in for a treat. This is a garage sale Christmas votive candle holder. It's been converted to an Oriole feeder. It looks stupid but it works.

Is jelly a dessert for them - like berries, but sweetier, or is there a nutritional need?

What kind of grandparents are you guys. That's not Mr. Bill! That's Gingy the Gingerbread Man that lost his leg when Lord Farquaard was torturing him and the Muffin Man had to put his gumdrops back. Wouldn't you have a look on your face like that if all that happened to you> I don't even watch tv but I've watched Shrek!

Too late, you failed the grandparent test havalotta. And back to our scheduled programming of jelly feeders... biigblueyes> you're going to have to ask a birder for details on the jelly. I don't know. I do know they like insects, oranges, and other fruit so I have nails stuck in a tree that I stick oranges to for them. gbreadman> I bought it for a friend who is really into decorating for Christmas. I kept forgetting to give it to her. I took a close look at some jelly feeders for sale and realized they were selling for over $30 and all they had was a frame with one or two holes to accommodate small votive candle holders. That's when I started thinking about Pam's garage sale gift. I paid $10 for it and I point out her Christmas decoration when she comes over and let her know she won't be getting it. She threatens to take it because her oriole feeders have only one dish each and her birds fight over a spot at the feeder. What's nice about this converted holiday decoration is that the whole thing can be stuck in a dishwasher.
