There are about 9 Goldfinches on my small patch of coneflowers this afternoon. Mostly imm. ones and a couple of mature ones. It looks like the goldfinches are teaching their offspring to find their own food. One doesn't seem to have gotten the idea. It's sitting on a coneflower seed head and begging for food, and getting it from a mature female.

Isn't that just the way with children? The goldfinches are busy here too. Yesterday I saw one hanging upside down on a slender grass stalk trying to get to the seed heads. It was sweet and funny at the same time.

We had adolescent cardinals in the holly begging for sunflower seed from the feeder.
