I see a lot of turkey vultures during the summer and in the fall there is a special count as they leave the island, over a thousand are counted. Not one of the better looking birds, but still nice to get a few photos.

There are a lot of turkey vultures in the Gettysburg, Pa. area. Local lore has it that there weren't many before the battle, but after the battle (July 1-july 3rd 1863) the odor of the 3000 to 5000 dead horses and mules attracted great numbers of vultures and they have been hanging around ever since. Even in the middle of winter you could see the vultures in their roosts around the battlefield.

Vultures are cool kildale. Sometimes I get 30 sitting on my pasture fence sunning their wings. I have posted pictures of them on this forum.
