Default Northwest Ecudaor: Town of Mindo

Mindo is a very welcoming little town. Known for it's good food and thriving ecotourism industry. You can get everything from street side kabobs for a dollar to a excellent steak for around 7$. They've built several bird status, including a cock of the rock on the way into town and a hummingbird nest in the town park. The park also had a few birds.

A short taxi or moderate walk will take one to Mariposa where they have some interesting planters and you can feed butterflies bananas.

Another feature around town is Mindo Lago. These are man made ponds designed to help frogs that were done along with replanting of native vegetation around the ponds. They do use one plant from Africa for the frogs to rest one. For a few dollars you get a glass a wine and a frog tour in the evening. We saw rainfrogs and treefrogs, some sleeping birds, and a bioluminescent fungi. It's an easy walk from the center of town to the ponds.

A KM or so past the Mariposa is Mindo Gardens. It has a scenic location right on the river. There is a hand powered bridge if you want to cross the river over to the trails. Many Basilisks were seen along the river. One the way back to town a small group of Sunbitterns were located along with a heron. The sunbitterns have a very nice pattern while flying.

A frog tour AND bioluminescent fungi, how cool! I only thought Basilisks were from the Harry Potter movies, silly me!
