My head is spinning after reading that one. Does having a precise definition of one word really cause this kind of confusion in conservation management. And does precise have to mean simplified. Biodiversity can not be simplified to include only biological componets. Including ecosystem diversity in the complete understanding of the word ensures that genetic diversity does not get lost at the expense of species diversity. Complexity in definition can and does increase understanding. Without the inclusion of ecosystem diversity genetic diversity is undermined which will affect survival of species diversity.
Did I misunderstand? It seemed to argue the exact opposite. |

Conservation management has waaaay too many special interests tugging at it to be able to do right by future generations. Things get down and dirty when competing interests get their hands under our kids' cookie jar lids.
