I've used the ole flash technique on distant objects before knowing it would not illuminate things because it speeds up the shot so there's less blurring from movement.

I suppose one could smother the flash with a tissue or something if you couldn't find where to turn it down.

What EV setting would you suggest for bug closeups when using the foam bowl with flash? The settings range from -3 to +3.

For macros, I set mine at minus 1-2/3, the stop just before -2. Play around with some subjects to the results you're getting. Good luck!
