Default Vegetable Seed Companies taking the 'Safe Seed Pledge'

A listing of seed companies clearly stating they sell no genetically modified seeds would be most useful. Especially to those amongst us who have conscientiously chosen to avoid genetically modified seeds.

Following Equilibrium's format of including language supporting same available from their websites, I will create a listing adding suggestions from, Vegetable Seeds without ties to Monsanto.

Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds
"We offer 1400 heirloom varieties. We only offer open-pollinated seeds: pure, natural & non-GMO!"

Bountiful Gardens, heirloom - untreated - sustainable - vegetable seeds - Bountiful Gardens
"Bountiful Gardens sells untreated open-pollinated non-GMO seed of heirloom quality for vegetables, herbs, flowers, grains, green manures, compost and carbon crops. We are able to offer many varieties as Certified Organic, Natural, Biointensive or Grow BiointensiveTM sustainable seed. CCOF Certified Organic Handler, CDFA OP #23-0336."

Fedco Seeds, Fedco Seeds genetic engineering statement
""Fedco Does Not Knowingly Carry Genetically Engineered Seeds.
At our 1996 Annual Meeting we voted unanimously not to knowingly offer for sale any transgenic variety because the new gene technologies pose unacceptable risks to the environment. In 1999 we affirmed and clarified that position and will follow the guidelines of the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) which prohibit the use of genetically engineered organisms in organic crop production. OMRI uses the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) definition of genetic engineering. Along with more than 150 other seed companies, we have signed The Safe Seed Pledge."

Roguelands Heirloom Vegetable Seeds Company, Vegetable Seeds UK - Heirloom Vegetable Seeds, Heirloom Vegetable Seeds .com, http://www.seedfest.co.uk/heirloom-seeds.html
"In addition to the research above, additional data from the USDA also states that the nutritional values of some crops in the United States has actually been gradually declining since as early 1914, which not so surprisingly traces back to the beginning of modern farm practices.

Meanwhile, heirloom varieties have been less subjected to this issue in that they have been maintained mainly by serious enthusiasts who cared little about early maturity or uniformity and were more interested in the delight of eating them. It is reasonable to suggest that heirlooms are more nutritious than conventionally farmed varieties, and although more research is needed, many horticulturists working with analyzing heirlooms are in agreement that heirloom varieties hold the nutritional keys to solving many of our health ailments.

In addition to offering mainly heirloom varieties (and ALL of our seeds are 100% old fashioned open pollinated varieties!), we have also signed the Safe Seed Pledge sponsored by Gene Watch. We pledge as follows:

"Agriculture and seeds provide the basis upon which our lives depend. We must protect this foundation as a safe and genetically stable source for future generations. For the benefit of all farmers, gardeners and consumers who want an alternative, We pledge that we do not knowingly buy or sell genetically engineered seeds or plants.

The mechanical transfer of genetic material outside of natural reproductive methods and between genera, families or kingdoms, poses great biological risks as well as economic, political, and cultural threats. We feel that genetically engineered varieties have been insufficiently tested prior to public release. More research and testing is necessary to further assess the potential risks of genetically engineered seeds. Further, we wish to support agricultural progress that leads to healthier soils, genetically diverse agricultural ecosystems and ultimately healthy people and communities."

Sandhill Preservation Center, Sand Hill Preservation Center: Seed and Root Catalog Information
"Safe Seed Pledge: We will never offer any genetically engineered varieties. We have a firm commitment to traditional plant breeding techniques and are adamantly opposed to moving genes from one species to another through biotechnology. Please see this pledge in it's entirety on the Resources and Links page."

Seeds of Change, Seeds of Change | About Us & Our Farm | The Safe Seed Pledge

Underwood Gardens and Terroir Seeds, About Underwood Gardens and our family
"Underwood Gardens was one of the first signers of the safe seed pledge. We pledge that we do not knowingly buy or sell genetically engineered seeds!"
