That's a good video and it shows 2 different ways to start them but.... I like this series better and saved the videos to my how-to tater file for a coupla reasons.... 1st off, he walks us through his "experiments" providing lots of details, 2nd, he walks us through his simple set up that any of us can throw together using mini Christmas lights instead of grow mats and 1 $12 Menards fluorescent lighting fixture.... 3rd, he talks us through the PLU codes on our fresh veggies in the 1st video of the series and I took screen shots of the codes including what they meant so we could go out and find organic sweet potatoes to use as starts. Veddy veddy interesting.... to me at least because I won't be buying started slips next year at $2.50 each x 8 x 2 different varieties.... that's the cost of a real grow mat and a fluorescent lighting fixture. I'm going to set aside the largest sweet potato I harvested from my best performer which was 'Vardaman', a bush variety, and then off to the grocery store I'll go to try to pick up a 'Jewel' and I'll take it from there. 1 tip from me.... add lots of sand to where ever you're going to grow potatoes or sweet potatoes.... it'll be so much easier on you when it comes time to dig them up at the end of the season. He recommends a 25% sand mix and I'd lean toward a 33% mix after having grown them for 2 years so far.

Oh oh oh.... I saved a few screen shots from the 1st video that were really informative to me. I keep meaning to check out the codes on the sweet potatoes in the organic aisle and the regular produce aisle and that "9 is fine" phrase will help me remember which is which soon as.... I remember to check the codes. I keep forgetting to do that every time I go grocery shopping. It's like I get there and and totally forget to do it until.... I'm checked out and in the car driving home!!!
