growing squashes

Can you grow spaghetti squash from seed? Zuchinni is very easy to grow from seed. I love squash. Turkey sausage and squash. That sounds good equil!

Yes, you grow them from seed. If you buy one for supper, save the seeds!

Oh I didn't think about that. Ok so how do you dry the seeds? I'm going to the store today. I'll see if I can find a spaghetti squash. Are all squashes easy to grow from seed?

They're easy to grow. And the good thing about spaghetti squash is that they're somewhat resistant to the squash borer. Sure, the bugs find the plant, but because it roots where ever it touches, the whole plant doesn't die.

Put your seeds in a jar or bowl, fill with water, swish around, scoop out what seeds you can, leaving behind the "guts". Put on towel. Rub seeds with towel, removing more guts. Pick out a few seeds that look nice and plump and use those. Dry them out and store in the fridge if you have enough room. Store in an envelope at room temperature if not.

Thank you blueyes. I bought the last spaghetti squash at the store today. Steamed it then ate it with garlic herbs and butter...so good! I will try growing it. I never had squash bores on the zuchinni I grew. I remember seeing posts about them on this forum.

No squash borers is a GOOD thing!

Ever since I was reminded of spaghetti squash on this forum I have become addicted to it. I bought another one today. It called to me in the store. I am telling friends that I am going to grow it and they are saying they will stop by to pick them up. I like that because some of the friends I rarely see. I am saving some seeds and the rest I'm throwing in the garden to be now. Hopefully I will be overrun with spaghetti squash!
