Hey, I am old enough, barely, to remember some of those days of tie-dye shirts, long hair, and 'give it to the man!'
As I recall, it was a series of posts that happened over the summer. I think it may have been a conversation involving Dap and Jack...but I'd have to look back to find it to be sure. Don't remember which thread it was. And, I must solemnly swear that I have NEVER grown weed in my back yard (my older sister did....but that's another story).

Funny.

I do recall the conversation...and I think I remember the suggestion, but last time I checked, it hadn't changed. I am sporadic in my visits, but I am making a concerted effort to check in more often. Have I been gone months? ...or am I just not very observant?

I will admit to being "not very observant" but I also got kinda busy there for awhile and wasn't here as much.

Thanks, WG Admin, I will do my best to live up to the name . But I won't plant weed in my back yard!

...Now, did every hippie smoke weed...or is that a stereotype? (I was only 14 months old when the 60s ended. )

Pretty much dap, although there were exceptions. In the day you would find that personal enlightenment came from many other sources including exploring eastern religions and native American rituals that didn't involve cannabis consumption. Some did include eating or smoking "herbs" but some did not. Carlos Castaneda had some more to say on the subject. It was required reading in high school in my day! Hunter S Thompson was also read during those times. No wonder we were all ****ed up back then, but still searching for a truth.

It was definitely post-hippie days but I was interested in the philosophy of the time and explored all the ways to this so-called enlightenment. Now I am more of the mind that these explorations should be less chemical and more physical. It's too difficult to live in your head but releasing endorphins are a natural high. If my body cooperated more I'd be out running marathons.

I listened to the audio book of the life of Hunter Thompson not too long ago. Very interesting. I experienced some of the hippie days. I wasn't interested in drugs though.

EllenW, I always enjoy your posts, they are so to the point and honest! I used to listen to audio books I borrowed from the library on my long hour and a half commute to school. What a way to "read" War and Peace! That was in the day of cassette tapes. I've since considered Audible from amazon but read negatives about it, now that my husband travels a lot for his job I'd love for him to have those audio books to listen to on the long drives.

Sorry I missed this--I forgot all about this topic...and didn't realize it was in this thread. Thank you for your response, linrose.

Well, my experiences with the Sixties is based on TV shows and documentaries...but mostly the music. I'm sure I'm idolizing it, but what little I know of that time has always fascinated me.
