As a fat person....I resemble these remarks! I'm a fat person AND a smoker! Though I must admit I've lost 50 Lbs. through diet and exercise and sparkpeople.com I also have a chronic progressive disease(MS) unrelated to smoking or obesity.

Any one of those characteristics would be a major hassle to deal with. Good luck on managing all three!

Congratulations on losing 50 pounds Prairiefreak. It isn't easy sticking to our guns making the time to care for our bodies properly. You did it. You should be very proud of yourself.

I believe we should start taxing the heck out of all junk foods. We should remove vending machines dispensing junk from all of our schools and public gathering places. We are rewarding people for being clinically obese by providing them with disability benefits and a plethora of other entitlement programs such as subsidized low income housing. If we tax these junk food products like we tax tobacco products, we might stand a change recouping some of the costs associated with obesity while lessening the blows to our environment. I agree with tough love.

Somewhat off topic- Michael Jackson's death has been ruled a homicide. I read this, "Dr. Conrad Murray, the Las Vegas cardiologist who was the pop star's personal physician, told police he gave Jackson propofol that morning after a series of sedatives failed to help Jackson sleep."

Why would Jackson's death be ruled a homicide and not the death of the sweet 700 lb man whose death certificate most likely states cause of death to be cardio-pulmonary arrest? Forgive me, they both swallowed what was given to them. In my opinion they both died wrongfully at the hands of people lacking common sense or ethics. It isn't acceptable to give knives to toddlers to play with so why would it be acceptable to give anything but healthy foods to a 700 lb man awaiting a surgery to end his misery?

Still trying to figure out what the WG staff has against fat people.

It's all how you look at it- PrairieFreak - I do not call myself fat. I'm a curvy girl. Lots of curves.

WG has several individuals searching for what's relevant in the news to share. Only one individual starts threads based on what others compile. We are backed up adding current news threads by three weeks due to vacations. What you are viewing is my request for topics of similar content to be placed in the same thread. Obesity has been brought to the forefront as an environmental concern by the media.

We need to keep the focus of these discussions on environmental consequences and what we can do to reduce our carbon footprints.

I for one have seen a viable money making angle on this. I am stocking up on twinkies so when they are banned for sale I will be the only one that has them. Then I can resell them for big bucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only problem is keeping myself from biting (ha ha) into profits be eating the inventory...

Prariefreak. I don't think WG has anything against fat people, but there is a national epidemic of obese children in this country. It is the obesity that is the problem.

Obesity is a drain on the country's health system and obese people are living half lives that should not be models for the next generation.

This is an epidemic -- it undermines the vitality of our nation -- and that should be of concern for every body.
