Havalotta, make sure it's thoroughly cooked, not just a quick fry for a couple minutes like you can do with tame mushrooms. They taste great, hope you like it.

Havalotta, those look like Phallus rubicundus (http://www.mushroomexpert.com/phallus_rubicundus.html) to me. Those used to fruit in my yard, just grew in grass. :)

Thanks for that link! Sounds like it might do well on my property with its soil that's fairly heavy clay loam derived from our limestone bedrock. :)

I was in a nearby oak-hickory woodland a couple days ago and saw this plant. It was maybe 4 or 5 inches tall.

I'd bet your red mushrooms were Russulas of some kind. Do you have oaks or pines in your yard? They associate with oaks around here but I know that some of them also associate with pines.

Those red-capped ones are Russulas of some kind. There's about a zillion species of Russulas with pink-to-red caps, so I can't say what species they are. Some are good edibles but most are too hard...
