I usually have a family each year. Fun to watch. If you still still outside they usually don't mind. The young make all kinds of cool sounds when they are begging for food.

Interesting, I haven't noticed my asters blooming earlier, but someone posted the same thing on a FB group I'm a member of (Native Plant Gardens in the Upper Midwest). That person is in Iowa.

Yes, that's what I meant of course. :) I only had this patch of pussytoes in the garden since last year.

As for my monarchs, several have formed chrysalises and unfortunately some of those fell...

I've had a bumper crop of monarch caterpillars!

Normally in a season I raise and release maybe 2 dozen total. Some from my yard and some from work. And usually I don't start finding them until July. This year I've got 29 just from my yard! I have...

Yeah, it's nice having it going again. It's a bit cool and rainy now, not so many visitors as during the dry spell we had.

Big fallout of migrants here in MN

It's about 20 degrees below average with rain/snow. So the migrants are stuck and foraging on the ground. Tons of white throated sparrows in the yard, I've never seen so many.

Here's a video of a...

Yeah, it's a pondless waterfall. However the last level fills up and shouldn't be empty like that. I think there was some debris clogging up the hose somewhere, which I managed to clear out. Maybe...

My mourning doves really congregate around it too. I actually kept a heated bird bath and an aerator down at the lowest level all winter, which worked pretty well. I had taken the pump out, so it was...

I took my trail cam down from the tree, but while I had it up the flying squirrel seemed to be a regular visitor. So I assume it's still around.

Overlook Falls is back in business!

It was easy to hook it back up and get everything going again. I didn't realize how much I missed it until I had it all started back up. And I'm happy to report that the blue flag iris I planted last...

Barred owl roosting in my back yard

I was working from home last Friday when I heard a huge commotion by crows and blue jays, so I knew something was up. They were focused on one area way up in our white pines and I was able to find...

They aren't normally out during the day, so this one might have been extra skittish/fast.

For comparison, here's a gray squirrel trying to get on the feeders. :)

There is a nice cavity in that tree, but because it's so close to the feeders, that tree is constantly busy with gray squirrels, tons of woodpeckers, nuthatches, etc. So I wouldn't think that would...

Flying squirrel at my bird feeders

I have a live YouTube stream of my bird feeders and noticed (for the first time ever!) a flying squirrel briefly the other day. Really surprised to see one during the day. It went straight for the...

I think I'm going to have to finally turn it off this weekend. Long range forecast says that next week the cold air from Canada will be coming our way.

Nashville warbler on trail cam

Migration is in full swing, I've seen a few warblers taking advantage of the water (which is exactly why I had it installed.) I'm hoping for some cool sparrows, thrushes, etc to come through.
