We're starting to see them but there's not a poster child in the bunch yet?

I don't know what it is with me but I LIKE rocks.....
If I could have lifted this beauty it would have been hoisted overhead into the cargo area and flying its way home with me .

I passed on a similar smaller rock as soon as I had noticed there were quite a few living clams in its holes.
Thank goodness I noticed. One can only imagine what our car would have smelled like within a few days time while in travel!

Take another look at the photo......It's filled with living clams!
They have special muscles for rubbing and rotating their shells against the rocks which they use to excavate the holes for their protection.

Wow, that is so interesting! I loved the Northern California shore when we visited a few years ago. We saw many starfish and other tidal creatures at ebb tide. I also bought a book on shoreline wildflowers at a local bookstore there. Even though it was August there were so many things blooming. It's facinating to see ecosystems very different from your own.

My grandson LOVED it.
There were sooooooo many little crabs, fish, starfish and shell covered critters all around us if you took the time to bend over and look.
Most people just "Walk on byyyyyyyyy"

Yes, and the colors are so amazing!!! Purples, corals, aquamarines and everything inbetween! You don't need to be a kid to be absolutely facinated and excited by it. We went before I had a digital camera so I'd have to dig out the photos but I took many with my old Pentax SLR.

I couldn't BELIEVE the combinations of colors upon the starfish, and upon EACH one of those there were many MORE colors surrounding raised dots and undulating wiggling crawlers. It was like looking at the various shades of a jaw breaker as you lick your way through them only THEY were the jaw Droppers being so colorful!
