For the start of a new year there were some very good images submitted, making the choice very hard. It finally came down to two - with Bridgett1964 edging out Sage. Something about the Coopers Hawk just kepts catching my eye and I can't for the life of me figure out what it is...

Congrats Bridgett1964 and Sage on your outstanding photos!
Bridgett, your coopers hawk photo is mesmerizing. It's those birdy eyes....such an intense gaze. |

Very nice indeed - can you tell what prey item the Cooper's hawk had in its nest?

Suunto, the cooper's had a big fat pigeon in his talons! There were steel grey feathers everywhere. He actually fell asleep between bites!

Thanks, Rebek and Turttle! I got lucky with this shot. I had a snow day and got a call about an injured hawk. Turns out he wasn't injured and was feasting on fresh pigeon! Excellent way to start a snow day!
