Default Greater Arid Land Katydid

The most bizarre insect on my property is this one, Neobarretia spinosa. Quite scary when it does this display! But I've only seen it do this once so far.

I've never seen anything like it! ...but it does remind me of that tiny dinosaur in the first Jurassic Park movie--the one that got "Neuman".

If it weren't for the goofy look on its face, it would be quite frightening.
