Here are my entries. What I think is an Orange Sulphur or something related, and a honey bee on a New England Aster.

Cool...look at the detail of the eye.

Your smooth aster is beautiful.

I think I may have smooth aster, too. I found it already on the property when I moved here--one of the few natives. I never tried to ID it, but it looks a lot like your picture (but don't a lot of asters look alike).I'm spreading it around the property.

I also have New England Aster, white wood aster, calico aster, frost aster, another white aster, and another blue aster.

I'm sure there are MANY more, and I'd like to add more. Any suggestions, anyone?

Smooth aster gets its name from the leaves, which are thick and glossy to the touch; the leaves also clasp the stem like N.E. aster's. I've posted some more pics here. Didn't you say that you also like panicled or lanceleaf aster? They're certainly putting on a show right now. I've ordered some skyblue aster seed for sowing this fall (Symphyotrichum oolentangiense). This species is endangered in NY but has been documented in the Niagara River gorge. It doesn't look as if it grows in PA. Another woodland aster I like is the blue wood aster, which is abundant in New England. Bigleaf aster is another shade-loving species that looks interesting, particularly for foliage effect.
