I guess it's 50 lashes with a wet noodle for turttle.

I'm so glad fall has arrived, the air is cooler, the leaves are swirling down, and the butterflies are feasting on the rotting persimmons in the woods!

Two from this morning, a Question Mark and a Red Spotted Purple with their breakfast.

Beautiful sunrise, suunto...great colors.

I don't think I've ever seen a sweet potato blossom before.

Beautiful butterflies, linrose.

Last year, someone told me about persimmons and encouraged me to plant them. After a little bit of research, I bought three bareroot seedlings and put them in this year. I'm sure it will be a long time before they are mature enough to bloom, and I have no way of knowing if I have both male and females, but at least I am planning for the future.

I believe the ant is Formica pallidefulva, per MrAntsinthePants identifying the same kind crossing my bridge. The aphids are the usual yellow ones that infest milkweed. I would think their honeydew would be nasty tasting, but apparently not.
Actually that looks like a Camponotus castaneus. They're in the same genus as carpenter ants but these nest underground.
