We have quite a few chickadees in residence year round and I've noticed that they'll allow me within about 6' of their space....well that is only when I don't have a camera. For some reason they don't seem to want a camera within about 100' of them. I've never tried to hand feed them although I would love to have one eat out of my hand. For me there is just something about a chickadee that makes me smile. To have one eat out of my hand....I'd be grinning from ear to ear.
On a side note and not to highjack the thread, I'm curious to know how close cover was for the birds that ate from your hands, and was it sparse, or full? I ask because I want to know if this seems to make a difference in their daring. |

The area in my case was heavily wooded...lot's of close cover available.

I guess I grew up in that kind of weather - 22 below - in Northern Michigan. Now I don't see how blood would keep flowing till Spring!
