Default Winter Coyote at daybreak

If I was able to enter this would have been my entry for January. This is the first picture I took in Yellowstone back in January 2005 while I was there conducting research on wolf behavior. But since I'm a judge for the contest, I posted it just to share ... it's one of my favorite images of a coyote

Does that coyote have a collar? I've noticed that wolves are collared in Yellowstone, I wasn't aware that coyotes were also...

I've always wanted to go to Yellowstone in winter. Someday when I don't have to work for a living, and I have time to kill, I will be there.

Sure does have a collar

In Yellowstone almost every species has one or two animals collared for research ... cougars, elk, bison, coyotes, wolves, bears, moose, etc.

I believe it's lynx and wolverines who have yet to be tagged with their tracking devices, but that may have changed since I last checked.

Here's another shot from the summer with a better view of the collar - different coyote though.
