This is a good time of year to see spiders. Anyone seeing them? Might not be seeing many more snakes this year. I haven't seen many bats lately. This is the time of year when you see Halloween decorations with all those things.
Please post your October photos here. thanks! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Now I need to go and find my laptop. I have a marbled orb weaver who is beautiful, and a very large fishing spider who has been living on my porch wall. When I lived in California I would not have understood the idea of spiders in fall, but here in NC fall is very definitely spider season. Luckily, they mostly stay outside, but I walk down my paths waving a stick in front of me during this part of the year.

Okay, here goes.
Spiders, I have... Fishing spider, D. tenebrosus ![]() Marbled orb weaver ![]() underside of harvestman, on rudebeckia ![]() My two, non-spider favorites. I watched wasps and carpenter bees on pitcher plants at NCBG. Soon after the two ended up on the same pitcher, drinking from nectaries, the wasp attacked the eastern carpenter bee, who then flew off. The wasp overbalanced and landed deep in the pitcher. It took it about a dozen tries, but it did finally escape. ![]() ![]()
