Have a look at the file size (kb) before you upload a photo and then check the file size after uploading it to WG. Let me know if there is a significant difference.

If you let the forums resize your image to the set sizes, it will compress it into a mess! This is good for size but not good for showing off photos. Resize your photos to 1000px max size, and they will come out better.
.jpg/.jpeg = 1000px max dimension

I normally overstress about contests and whatnot, but I am making an exception for this Great Golden Digger Wasp. I was enthralled while watching several of these busy ladies near my dill. I need all the help I can get with all the grasshoppers we have right now.

test photo, as an example of what I am complaining about.
bumble on beebalm 747 kb when downloaded, it says 116.6 kb. given this was already a small file, why did it shrink it further?

Interesting. I don't think it used to do that. Or maybe it always did and I paid attention to the kb/mb and not the pixels. I will start paying more attention to that. Thanks, Rockerboo.

Thank you RockerBOO for that excellent demonstration of the different results when uploading photos to WG!
When looking at the photo properties the first photo is only 79kb and the second is 290kb. The second photo is sharper and has more detail than the first photo, even though they are both displayed at the same size on the screen. As you pointed out, if the uploaded photo is larger than 1000 x1000 it gets reduced down to a maximum of 1000 x 1000. The file size (kb/mb) only becomes a problem if the total of the photos being loaded at one time gets up to 2.86mb.

Yes, we did get to see the purple martins come to roost. It was amazing. I'm guessing there may have been as many as 100,000 of them. I will see if I can find a video of them swarming in to roost.
