deer

I've often ran across deer hair-tufts in the woods.

Sometimes it's sheared off during their heated battles with one another during the rut.

Sometimes it's bits and pieces pulled free from the various predators in the area........

If that be the case, I find it a challenge to see if I'm able to locate the remains and then even more so, to locate its head.
Once found, you can easily tell whether it was a buck or doe they feasted upon.

Sometimes you can tell whether it's either been hit by a car or fatally shot and lost by a rifle hunter (Broken bones)
Some may even be found bearing an arrow point or shaft.

This one was apparently tossed into the ditch by a hunter!
(Notice the skull has been cut and the horns have been removed)

It now lies at home with a few other bones (X marks the spot) in the grandsons Pirate treasure area.
