Default Raccoons with distemper in cook county Illinois.

Not zombie raccoons but the danger of many raccoons testing positive again this year with distemper is real for pet owners...get that vaccine. Report any odd behavior observed. I wonder if there have been any squirrels tested? Last year I saw a squirrel dragging its back legs and acting strange. I reported but do not know if it was captured and tested.

"The Stickney Township Animal control has issued a warning to be on the lookout for raccoons that may be acting strange," the post reads. "They may have distemper. Warning signs will be they are not moving and just staring, growling showing their teeth, crawling in circles. If you see one of these animals do not approach them. Do not let your dogs and children near them. Do not try to feed them."
Police also said to make sure your dogs are vaccinated with the distemper virus shot.

Yikes! That can be scary for pet owners and those living amidst these sick animals. Fortunately it has been about five years since I have heard a report in my area of a rabid raccoon...
