Default NY - Newcomers Push Out Native Plants

From The New York Times

Quote:
Phragmites and its smaller cousin, stiltgrass, have become a horror story for park managers and environmentalists. Nearly every waterbank and marsh in the region is surrounded by towering phragmites. The phragmites reeds choke ponds and lakes. They are extremely difficult to eradicate, with roots that extend six to eight feet into the ground.

Illinois was around 40% non-native vegetation the last time they were tossing around figures which was 2 decades ago.... wonder what we're at now??? Articles like that are really good. They help heighten awareness. Just 20 years ago you would have never seen anything like that in a newspaper. Really thoughtful of you to add that benj1.

I figured you'd like the part about roots six to eight feet deep.
