Durango Herald News, Feds reach deal over N.M. frog
excerpt from above:
The Fish and Wildlife Service listed the frog as threatened in June 2002, but said at the time that designating critical habitat would not protect the frog from threats such as disease or being collected by people.

Under the settlement signed by a federal judge last week, the agency agreed to reconsider whether critical habitat would benefit the frog. If biologists determine that habitat would help, the agency will issue a final designation by December 2011.

"The fate of this frog rests on strong habitat protections, and we will press the Fish and Wildlife Service to provide effective safeguards to pull this animal back from the brink," said Nicole Rosmarino, WildEarth Guardians' wildlife program director.
The tendency of man's nature to good is like the tendency of water to flow downwards.
