Here’s a site that hits home, The Alakai Swamp: An Ecosystem Besieged, http://www.waialeale.org/alakai.html There was evidence of pigs (human collectors and wild boars) destroying the Alaka’i Swamp. There’s a new book out there on the Alaka’i Swamp by Fernando Peņalosa that I might buy, http://islandbreath.blogspot.com/2009/11/book-on-alakai-wilderness.html It’s going to depend on whether I can get my hands on it or not. I want it real bad!!! There’s another book I’m interested in, Remains of a Rainbow: Rare Plants and Animals of Hawaii by Middleton and Liittschwager. I probably won’t buy that one if I can get it at the library.

Equil, your photo essay is fantastic! Your skills behind the lens are really wonderful and I loved seeing this spectacular place I never even heard of before. Please put as many as you can on the wallpaper threads!

So you liked my limey chalky comments, eh? Ha ha!!! I did have a blast there and at the Kilohana Learning Community. Now that's a place where you can really get down and dirty. Forget those fancy schmancy spas with their mud packs... nothing better than rolling in the mud then rolling over on your back to look at the sky after you've weeded out a taro bed. Now that I could have seen you doing with me. I do have more photos of the swamp. I've got to crop them still. I keep meaning to do that but I got home a couple days ago and the laundry called to me and so did work... By the way... some of these were taken with the old camera and some of these were taken with the new camera. I don't know how to tell which is whick after I load them. Is there a way for you to tell me which camera I used to take that second photo in post #71? You once told me which Canon model I was using before by clicking somewhere on the photo. I keep doing that and nothing happens.

I tried the 2nd pic in 31 but I can't get the exif info like if it were on Flickr. Locate the pic on your "Pictures", right click on it; select Properties (usually at the bottom)

That sort of worked. I got this, C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My Pictures\Kodak Pictures\2010-01-26\. That's cool. I didn't know I could get the exact date I took a photo. This is good to know. I've had some photos I wanted to submit to the photo of the month contest but I couldn't remember what month I took them in so I didn't submit them. Now I know how to tell the month I took them. Thanks Sage!!!

Wait!!! There's another tab for details. It tells me I acquired the photo on 2/4/2010 which makes sense since that was the day after we got home when I would have started downloading the photos. It says the photo was taken with the new camera the PowerShot SX20 IS not the Cannon PowerShot S2 IS. It gives me info on whether the flash went off or not and it tells me the Aperture was f2.80 and the focal length was 5.0mm and the ISO speed was 150.
