A few nights ago, we had a halo effect around the moon as a result of high, thin ice crystal clouds. I tried to take photos, but was none too successful. This is the best of a bad lot, along with an earlier one of the moon peeking through the trees...

I knew someone would have an answer. Very impressive, havalotta! And thanks for the excellent link. The circles were probably left by some of the jets from the Patuxent Naval Air Base, which is across the bay from here. They often do training over the bay. Well, we should all enjoy those photos because they are evidence of your tax dollars at work!

Suunto I know exactly what you were looking at....A halo with some wonderful color play.
I noticed three of them here recently and was wondering if anyone was out in the 20 degree weather capturing them for the thread.
YOU came through..... Frozen fingers?

THIS YEAR ALREADY!
I LOVE snowy days like that.
The weather is usually warm and perfect for a walkabout with the pup snuffling and burrowing through the fluffy snow.
I can picture it splattered all across his face, resting upon his nose.
It's an apple pie sort of day.

This is a second try at posting these photos - I thought that I has done so yesterday, but something obviously went agley... It was a foggy morning after an overnight 2" rainfall that resulted in more mini-gullies and an overflowing springhouse.
