It's a cranberry not a blueberry. We ran across blueberries too when we were out there.

Ohhhhhh so Vaccinium covers more than one species of fruiting plant. I learned something.
You can eat those too. They develop later than the blueberries do then.

Two more photos of the Carney Fen. These are photos of the native Phragmites. Notice how other plants can grow up and through the mild mannered native.

I don't know what your caterpillar is, but I think the plant he's on is Bogbean (Menyanthes trifoliata):

One of my favorite plants at the Carney Fen. I sent some samples out to the group at Cornell Univ. that is working on a phragmites project. They emailed back that not only was it the native genotype, but it was an exemplary example of the native type.

The native phragmites weren't any where near as tall as the invasive ones either..........
