Burden falls:

A small, but very scenic upper part of Burden falls literally overflows onto the road!

Unlike most of the state, Pope County and extreme southern Illinois escaped glaciation during the Ice Ages, steep slopes display the effects of lengthy erosion.
Similar geological features in other regions of Illinois were ground into oblivion by the ice.

Watercourses confined by sandstone ledges, of the sort found in Burden Falls Wilderness, are locally known as shut-ins

I dunno what you were doing but I made it over into an area where I could view another portion of the falls from above. It was really difficult getting photos though!!! The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th photos are of the area where you could look down and peek. If you were a rock climbing goat.... you could've gotten some good photos of the falls below!!!

I think Scotty just got beamed up in the 1st photo. The other 2 photos were taken across from the upper falls just beyond the wash.

The sun was very bright so the shadows were intense. I thought it kinda looked cool that the spider looked like it had more legs!!!
