You can't imagine the amount of divisions I GIVE away each year. I don't know what it is, but whatever I plant grows. I can literally rip stuff out by giving it a yank and tuck it elsewhere and they take off. Often too much so....I pass them on to friends, strangers, postal workers, joggers and anyone....that arrives at my doorstep.
Friends plant them, and lots of them end up shriveling and die. HEY, You have to shade them for a bit, I tell them to trim off some of their tops. Ah YES...Those big beautiful flowers. Give it a whack and set them into a vase in the house to enjoy! Since part of their root system has been destroyed or removed when uprooting you MUST or SHOULD remove part of their tops to balance the plant. If you think about it...A shrunken army can't feed a giant. LESS roots can't draw what's needed to keep the FULL size plant in great shape anymore. You should baby them a bit as well as in..................WATER them! Not just the one time when you first plant them but KEEP on watering them in for a few weeks or so remembering to allow them to dry out between the waterings! Plants, like all living things, MUST come up for air or they WILL drown. They can end up with root or crown rot...All done dancing, pushing up daisies.

I do too, that's why I give them to people hoping they live on and bring joy. I just can't toss anything over the hill or into the compost.

What are tiger lilies? Non-native ornamentals, I'm guessing.

I'd rather share natives to spread...but I know you love your ornamentals too.
