I just realized when I looked closely at the photos that the witch hazel is blooming.
When the leaves drop you can see it more clearly since the leaves and flowers are the same color.

Here, they are the first to bloom in the spring or as in late late winter!

A portion of this record tree was trimmed years ago.... See Link below....

GIANTS deserve preservation

I had to have a piece of this great tree.
I raised a gnarly branch upon my shoulders and hiked my way through the forest to my waiting car.

And I bet it has a place of honor in your yard.

I thought it would look cool in my home somewhere turned the other way with an owl on it or something like that.
Hubby told me he didn't want another one in. I couldn't figure out where to put it inside anyway...
It resides out by my grape for now.....

I'll go into my photos to see if I have a photo of that one......It turned out pretty cool.

Read your tree story and was delighted you were able to help save it.
Having a trimming from your special tree makes it a great treasure.

The witch hazel in the photo blooming now is Hamamelis virginiana, it blooms in October and November.
I also have another witch hazel, Hamamelis vernalis that blooms in late winter, early spring.

Ah Ha. I found a photo of that one!
This is located above my entryway.

I pulled this baby up by the roots, hauled it home and trimmed it to free stand.
I added the 2 carved crows, 2 decoy crows and morning dove, and a Halloween vulture prop .

I like it. I like it very much. It is classy. If only I had nice high ceilings like yours.

That cedar sat in my front room for a month waiting for him to help me put it up. He said he did not want to look at that in our house.
I said it is going up there with or without your help and if I fall off the ladder and get crippled it's all your fault.
I told him I just wanted to see it up there and if he truly didn't like it I would remove it.(MAYBE)

Did he dare voice any objections?
