pawprint The vertical gardening, now includes the hopping little golf balls!

Yep that is right, today I was the observer of my first litter of bluebirds chicks that ventured out today. 3 chicks awkwardly fell out of the nest, the mom & dad, chattered loudly for more than an hour, which is all new to me, I've never had bluebirds in my yard before. Even the bluejay was squacking, and the pair of titmouse came over to the dogwood tree that the nest is in, to see the new chicks? I showed purple finch babies last year 'hitting the ground on the run', this year it is bluebirds.

Naturally one little guy headed for the garden, where I know the big black snake hangs out, so I carefully kept my distance, while observing the young family. It took over 20 minutes to finally get those babies to start flying. Hours later, I just saw one baby out in the front yard, mostly remaining on the ground with one parent watching overhead. So I don't expect they will go back to the gourd nesting box (previously shown in this thread), now that the babies can fly. The Rhen family had their chicks out flying around last week, but they seem to like my engine crane better than my gourds for bird house location!

Here is some pixs of the babies from today.

Hi will-o-wisp, ya the bluebirds have been interesting to watch this spring, and luckily they chose the birdhouse near our window, so it is easy to see their activity.
