Question what ist? - It likes Fraxinus (Ash)

could this be a caterpillar?

I noticed that a young ash (don't remember if green or white) - the one with the "smile" rather than the "c" at the ?stem scar?

was bent over. if you look to left of bend in the photo, you can see what I did:

and here's what it looks like from another angle (looking up) - sorta like a pea pod.

thanks equilibrium - certainly matches the online images.
guess my imagination took over there - could've swore that was a head, body and limbs of some critter!

Someone else with an over active imagination... I thought I was alone. Did you find out what kind of a leafroll midge it was?
