Default State Department of Fish and Game Issues New Sport Fishing License Requirement for 2011

State Department of Fish and Game Issues New Sport Fishing License Requirement for 2011 - Half Moon Bay, CA Patch

"Activities that require a license are not restricted to just fish or shellfish. "Taking" or "pursuing" reptiles or amphibians are also subject to the license requirements as well, as are any kind of catch-and-release activities."

Interesting that they are adding reptiles and amphibians to the general licensing.
Taking or pursuing, for what? Pets, field studys ...?

I think you need the license even to look at them closely.

Looks like this is a California requirement.

Wisconsin has had this kind of requirement for as long as I can remember. It's just used as a control mechanism by the DNR. It enables them to have some legal ability to protect animals and their environments.

Virginia protects deer, but if they die on your property, you are responsible for disposing of the body.
