I have a couple of these showing up and kind of like them. I think they're perennials but could be young woody plants. These are also in a shady, dry, difficult part of the garden. They have divided, toothed leaves.

Thanks. -- Lori

Loris, that is Bidens. You won't be able to tell which one until they flower and seed. The group includes a bunch of plants that go by names like beggarticks (for the sticky seeds), ditch daisies (pretty yellow flowers, prolific), Spanish needles (one species seeds are really needle like, don't know why Spanish). They are native, bloom in the fall, and very attractive to pollinators. They are also aggressive about spreading, so decide now if you want to leave them. I let them grow wild in my woods, but try to weed them out of the more civilized parts of my yard.

Thanks turttle. I'll leave them for the moment. If the fruit actually hurts, I may take it out for that reason. Otherwise I like the idea of having more for the pollinators, and the flowers I just saw on Google do look good.

I thought Bidens too...but I had to add that I like your stone path.
