Controlled burn class set for spring
Galena IL April 3 to 5, 2009
For the first time in several years, the Illinois Fire Service Institute will hold a 20-hour Basic Wildland Certification Course this spring to teach participants how to safely conduct controlled burns in woodland and grassland areas.
Organizers say the workshop will include classroom work in the first two days, but will culminate in a hands-on wildland firefighting exercise at one of the Galena Territory greenspace sites. As part of this activity, students will conduct their own controlled burn in the field, said Christie Trifone, director of public lands for the JDCF.

“This is new,” Trifone said of the course. “It will help get them on their way to certification. It will help them get the information on how to conduct these fires legally and safely.”
The cost for the course is $250 per person, and registration is limited. The deadline to register is March 12, 2009.

For more information, contact Trifone at (815) 858-9100.
The tendency of man's nature to good is like the tendency of water to flow downwards.
