No matter if you live on a 500 acre ranch or a high rise apartment in NYC, there is a lot you can do to help preserve, restore, and protect wildlife and their habitat. This is just a small sample, but gives 12 steps to habitat improvement/creation.
Things you can do even if you live in an apartment:

Great ideas!
There are a lot of good eco-friendly organizations looking for volunteers. In many cases, volunteers are the greatest need. Donating a little time to these organizations will make it possible for them to accomplish a lot of good things. It can be a very satisfying and rewarding experience. More and more states are developing programs to help landowners increase the conservation value of their land. Many of these programs offer both technical expertise and financial assistance. Tax relief incentives are available in some states when land is put into conservation easements. Everyone has an opportunity to help in some way.

Excellent ideas.
Don't forget to find out how local political candidates feel about conservation efforts and then go out and vote. It is important that our voice is heard. Our new goveneror Pat Quinn has been an ardent conservationist. |

Gloria, didn't you write a piece on butterfly habitats? I've fumbled around looking for something I read awhile back and can't find it. I remember it being something beyond the usual language of brochures. I'm trying to find it for a friend who's doing a program this weekend on habitat restoration.

If anyone is in a position to share something they have written, this would be a good area of the site in which to do so:
