Default Copying information from other websites

Guidelines for including information from other web sites:

One of the best things about our community is that we are always seeking to learn from each other, and encourage everyone to share articles, resources and other information that they have found. It is in the best interest of all of us when more quality information is readily available, so please share!

It may seem obvious, but one of the most important things we can do for each other is include a link to the original article. While some of us are most interested in the highlights or bare facts of an article, others find it helpful to read an article in its original context. A link makes it possible. In addition, when the linked web sites see increased traffic, it may encourage them to include more articles of similar interest. When we include the link, everyone wins.

Because the Internet is so ephemeral (what is here today may be gone tomorrow), it can sometimes be difficult to find something we saw just last week. We can make it easier for all of us to find what we are looking for with a couple of easy steps:
We should include the title of the article and the name of the author, whenever possible.
We should also try to include one or two sentences from the linked article, so that the thread will still make sense if the link becomes broken. If we include some key words, it will make it much easier to perform a browser search as well. While the original web page may have been taken down, it may be possible to find the article in another form. A couple of sentences from the original article along with the title and author can make a world of difference—very helpful!
We should all try to respect the rights of the original author and the integrity of the original article by resisting the urge to copy and paste more than is necessary.

Finally, we understand that it is sometimes hard to know what to include and what can be left out. Because some publishers regularly patrol the Internet in order to find people copying their material (and some are quite aggressive about it), we may, on occasion, edit a post that includes more copying from another source than may be strictly necessary. We apologize in advance if a post is edited for length. Please know that it is not because of you! We are just trying to play it safe.
