Default Can I get rid of jumping ,screaming cutsie smilies?

I haven't posted in awhile and I now have a box of smilies acting out alongside the text box. Please tell me how to get rid of them.
They are giving me a huge headache with their attention grabbing antics.
If I can at least stop them moving around I can learn to ignore them.

One option is in your Control Panel - Edit Options. There is a choice of 3 editors there. I'm pretty sure that one of them does not display the emoticons. The selection box is down near the bottom of the Edit Options page.

I also think there is an option to turn off the smiles displayed in the posts; but for the life of me, I can't find that right now.

Thanks Cirisium but I can't seem to find the correct option control that removes the smilies.

I managed to do it using the following sequence:

Clicked "Control Panel" on the main page,
clicked ""Edit Options" on the left sidebar,
scrolled down to the "Miscellaneous Options" box,
clicked "Message Editor Interface" pull-down menu,
chose "Basic Editor - A Simple Text Box" from the three choices.

Unfortunately the basic editor doesn't have the ability to attach photos and change fonts, though, so it's pretty limiting.

Actually, you can attach photos in the basic editor. It's just located in a different spot. If you scroll down a little ways below the message window and the "Post Icons", you will see "Additional Options". One of those options is "Manage Attachments". If you click on that you will see the familiar window for posting photos.
